The most common kind of warranty used is a shingle manufacturer warranty. This type of warranty covers you against defects in the roofing materials that cause them to break down or fail before they should. The coverage varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, however, generally speaking they will cover you for between 20-50 years. There is an initial non-prorated period (usually 7-15 years) where the warranty can be transferred to another owner and there is no depreciation.
